RESEARCH ON FREQUENCY UTP CANDIDATE SMOKING
Do university candidate smoking often? On 11th Mac 2013 in Universiti Teknologi Petronas , I have done a simple research in Group of English Tutorial from 5:20pm to 6:00pm at Lecture Room 12 which located at Blok N of UTP campus. I intended to know how often university’s candidates smoking. There were 20 students in my group. My group member consisted of variety of races which included Malay, Chinese, Indian and also few of international students. All of the local students come from different states in Malaysia such as Johor, Perak, Terengganu, Sarawak and etc. The religions of the participant are Islam, Buddhism and Hindu. All of them have an average age of 18 years old which comprised of 7 males students and 13 females students. All of them are taking different course. For instance, electrical and electronic engineering, petroleum engineering and civil engineering. Majority of them are still single but some of them have either boyfriend or girlfriend.
From the research I have done, I have found that 20% out of the students , which has an amount of 4 students admitted that they smoke frequently as they stated out their reason they should smoke as they are boys . Thus, a small conclusion can be made as the students in this tutorial group who smoke are mostly boys. Those who answer ‘NO’ for smoking hold percentage of 70% out of 20 students which is also equal to 14 persons. Lastly , there are a small percentage of students have refused to answer the question of research as most of them were feeling embarrassing to make his or her stand on this topic . There are total of 10% of students out of 20 students who have refused to give any distinct and unambiguous answer to this question which also equal to 2 students out of 20 candidates.
Based on the research I have done, the justification I can obtain is majority of the students are not smoking. This is probably due to the conservative thinking of most of the students which perceived that the action of smoking is a very bad for healthy. Most of them also feel uncomfortable when answering this kind of question as most of them didn’t feel well to make his or her stand for this question. There are also most of them have answered the question whether she or he did or didn’t smoke. Although it holds a very small percentage of students, they are still willing to cooperate to help the research to be done.
