REPORT ON DRAMA PERFORMANCE
On last Monday
which was on 8th of April 2013, the best group in the world, ‘Teh
Tarik’ group, which was my group presented a drama entitled ‘The Unlucky King’
based on the short story ‘Lady or The Tiger’ written by Frank Stockton. Our
group consisted of four members including me and three others which are Ahmad
Izzat Asyraf Mazuki, Ahmad El Afify bin Mohd Safri, and Muhammad Hafiz bin
Mohd. Saidi. We were given a few places to be chosen as our venue for the drama
and we chose the staircase near Halliburton as our venue. The drama carried 10%
of our coursework mark so we had no choice but to perform our best in it. Our
script was the masterpiece of our minds combined together to form a splendid
work of art. We did not like the original story as it was quite boring so we
altered the whole structure of the story and gave it a different title instead,
‘The Unlucky King’. Our English tutor, Mr Rosli Din was the one who gave us the
task of presenting a drama. We finished the first draft of our script and
presented it to our tutor and he commented that it was magnificent. That
statement somehow motivated us to work harder in preparation for the drama. We
discussed about the props needed in our drama in our first meeting and we set a
certain date to buy, design and paint our props.
On our second meeting we started discussing about the roles
that each one of us should play and printed out the second draft of the script
for each and every one of us to memorize. The meetings later on were our
practice sessions for the drama. That certain day arrived and we bought
Styrofoam boards and designed two of them to look like doors and one of them to
look like a jail gate. The remaining boards were used to make swords, shields
and other things.
After one month
of practicing, the day had finally arrived. We were feeling so nervous until at
a certain time our nervousness reacted with each other and turned into a
feeling of bravery. Our group was the second group to present and when it was
our turn we quickly placed all the props and got ready. Unfortunately, it was a
very windy day so our props started floating on their own and it made our drama
look magical like in the classic movies in the ancient times. We taped them
onto the ground and continued with our introduction. After that we proceeded
with the first scene, followed by second, third, fourth and fifth scene. I was
actually surprised that our drama was going pretty well with a pinch of romance
and a spoonful of comedy. We managed to capture the audience’s attention with
our drama so I can say that I am very happy that our work has paid off. I would
also like to say thank you to Mr Rosli Din for giving us a chance of acting in
a drama because who knew that we had so much talent hiding within us.
